Hatha Yoga Directory

Welcome to the Yoga Journal Hatha Yoga Directory page. In this section you will find yoga studios, retreat centers, and teachers who specialize or incorporate Hatha Yoga into their practice and philosophy.

Hatha Yoga, or Hatha Vidya, was established by Yogi Swatmarama. Not only was Swatmarama an intellectual of 15th century yoga, but also put together the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. In this work, Swatmarama discusses Hatha Yoga as a starting point for physical purification of the body, which ultimately leads to higher meditation. Most people in the west associate yoga with hatha and hatha yoga can provide mental and physical health benefits to those who practice it.

Alisa Cubic first discovered yoga on PBS Chicago TV every day after elementary school. The teacher looked so peaceful, yet strong. She wanted to be just like her. She dove into the spirituality of it all, and it continued through to her adult life. Life happened though and she found herself separated from yoga asanas until a romantic winter reunion happened in 2013 at Yoga By Degrees. Alisa decided it was time to get serious about, not just her mind and spirit, but her body as well. What better way than to get certified to teach yoga? The yoga community provided her with the space to get to know herself deeper than she ever dreamt possible, all while allowing her to be her. Alisa hopes to bring this same safe haven to her vinyasa and restorative classes: love, kindness, joy and acceptance. Alisa is 200 hour certified in yoga since 2014 & has since then received further certification in Yoga Sculpt as of February 2016.

I have always been interested in healing. I came to yoga while working a rewarding but highly stressful job. I was also seeking an option for low impact fitness, since a serious lower body military injury chronically limited me in some activities. Through yoga, I found improved physical strength, flexibility, and balance. What surprised me was also finding an immense sense of calm, and healing in body, mind and spirit, whether through vigorous flow, gentle restorative yoga, or breath work. I felt benefits both on and off the mat.

I am a Ct based traveling yoga instructor.  I hold certifications as a Registered Children's Yoga Teacher (RCYT), completing a 95 hour training and I have completed my 200 hour training as well making me a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200).  I teach a wide variety of styles that can fit anyone's needs, from a gentle restorative class to an instead power session.  The voice is yours!!! Grab your mat and come join me!!

Carrie Hensley

Hi! I’m Carrie, a motorcycle riding yogini on the adventure of a lifetime helping women connect to their intrinsic worth to create a life they love.

My mission is to connect you to your inner guru. By turning our awareness inwards, we begin to connect to that place of intrinsic worth and Source the unique gifts that each of us brings into this lifetime. We live a more authentic and purpose driven life and are more adept at sharing our gifts with the world.

My style merges strength and flexibility with moving meditation. This style of practice pulls my students into the present moment and encourages them to be mindful with where they are in their bodies now. My intentions and themes in class will aid you in your yogic lifestyle and path. I teach in ways that allow my students to sink deeper into their asana poses while remaining open and present. My energy creates a healing and supportive space that is key to a deeply connected personal practice.
