Hatha Yoga, or Hatha Vidya, was established by Yogi Swatmarama. Not only was Swatmarama an intellectual of 15th century yoga, but also put together the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. In this work, Swatmarama discusses Hatha Yoga as a starting point for physical purification of the body, which ultimately leads to higher meditation. Most people in the west associate yoga with hatha and hatha yoga can provide mental and physical health benefits to those who practice it.

As a yoga therapist I teach a gentle form of hatha yoga. I specialize in using yoga techniques (movement, breathing, relaxation and meditation) with people who have health issues. Nancy Turner began life in ballet shoes and eventually danced with the Fort Worth Ballet in the early 70's. At 16 she quit because of the physical issues that began arising, but the gracefulness she retained throughout her life. After working 35-years in the corporate world she retired a year after losing her only child in a tragic situation. With heart broken and her self-confidence shattered, she found yoga as the practice needed to help her in her grief journey. A year later she began her teacher training and founded Compassion Yoga in April 2016.
