Hatha Yoga, or Hatha Vidya, was established by Yogi Swatmarama. Not only was Swatmarama an intellectual of 15th century yoga, but also put together the Hatha Yoga Pradipika. In this work, Swatmarama discusses Hatha Yoga as a starting point for physical purification of the body, which ultimately leads to higher meditation. Most people in the west associate yoga with hatha and hatha yoga can provide mental and physical health benefits to those who practice it.
Keri Knutson – yoga teacher, Official Yoga Instructor of the Rockford IceHogs, Rockford native, and 20 year practitioner of yoga, Keri is trained in and currently teaches Vinyasa Flow, Hatha Yoga, Restorative Yoga, and chair/therapeutic yoga in Rockford/Rockford area. Her journey has included studying the history, lineage, philosophy, and systems of traditional Hatha and Raja Yoga, Anusara, Bhakti, Iyengar, and Integral Yoga – focusing on Vinyasa Flow to deepen her own practice.
Kerry Burki has been teaching yoga since 2004 in both Chicago and Phoenix. She has been practicing yoga since her first Iyengar class in 1997 in Flagstaff, Arizona. She is now the Editor-In-Chief of Kerry Magazine. This is a brand new magazine that encourages women to feel beautiful as they are right now while also encouraging connection and supporting small business. I love the alignment required in the poses, and I stress the importance of alignment in my classes. Laura has been practicing yoga since 2004, and earned her 200-hour vinyasa yoga and meditation instructor certification in 2010 from the Long Island Yoga School. She is currently working towards her 300-hour certification through Absolute Yoga in Woodbury, NY. Laura teaches in several locations on Long Island, and offers in-home sessions as well. She is also a registered dietitian and loves to provide group nutrition education workshops in her community, as well as corporate wellness programs for organizations in the tri-state area.

After 20 years as a high school teacher and school administrator, I retired to help others find the 'peace within.' I am a 200 hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) registered with Yoga Alliance. I currently teach group yoga classes in a local yoga studio in the Chicago suburbs, work with private clients, and school athletic teams to incorporate yoga into their training and conditioning.
In 1998, I took my first yoga class and began teaching asana classes in 2002. I study and practice Hatha Yoga in the tradition of H. H. YogiRaj Swami Bua Ji of India, under the generous tutelage of his protege, Patricia D'Angelo. I am an initiate of the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy, where I received my teaching certification and draw on their expertise in pranayama and meditation. I am also certified to teach Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga, which allows me to share the benefits of yoga with everyone, regardless of age or mobility.
