Hot Yoga Directory

Welcome to the Yoga Journal Hot Yoga Directory page. In this section you will find yoga studios, retreat centers, and teachers who specialize or incorporate Hot Yoga into their practice and philosophy.

Hot Yoga is yoga held in a heated yoga room. The heat warms the body and helps a person go deeper into postures. Each class can vary depending on the teachers training and teaching style. Generally Hot Yoga is a fluid vinyasa flow practice. They tend to be very strenuous and the heat adds to the difficulty of the class. Hot Yoga can be loosely based on Bikram Yoga.

Alisa Cubic first discovered yoga on PBS Chicago TV every day after elementary school. The teacher looked so peaceful, yet strong. She wanted to be just like her. She dove into the spirituality of it all, and it continued through to her adult life. Life happened though and she found herself separated from yoga asanas until a romantic winter reunion happened in 2013 at Yoga By Degrees. Alisa decided it was time to get serious about, not just her mind and spirit, but her body as well. What better way than to get certified to teach yoga? The yoga community provided her with the space to get to know herself deeper than she ever dreamt possible, all while allowing her to be her. Alisa hopes to bring this same safe haven to her vinyasa and restorative classes: love, kindness, joy and acceptance. Alisa is 200 hour certified in yoga since 2014 & has since then received further certification in Yoga Sculpt as of February 2016.

In 2009--seven years after my cancer diagnosis and moments after yet another potentially embarrassing wardrobe malfunction duringa yoga class--I ditched my breast form at the studio, acknowledging that I had found my second home. I've used yoga to nurture myself as both a survivor and caregiver, discovering that a conscious practice is indeed for every body.
