Welcome to the Yoga Journal Power Yoga Directory page. In this section you will find yoga studios, retreat centers, and teachers who specialize or incorporate Power Yoga into their practice and philosophy.

Power yoga is a basic term used in the West to describe a fitness-based vigorous approach to vinyasa-style yoga. This type of yoga is a rigorous full-body workout that promotes mental stability and concentration. Most power yoga is closely modeled on the Ashtanga style of practice. The term "power yoga" came into common usage in the mid 1990s, when several yoga teachers were looking for a way to make Ashtanga yoga more accessible to western students. Unlike Ashtanga, power yoga does not follow a set series of poses. Power yoga classes can vary widely from teacher to teacher. However, power yoga will most likely appeal to people who are already quite fit, enjoy exercising, and want a minimal amount of chanting and meditation with their yoga.

Samdhaana Yoga Teacher Training is an integrative study of yoga philosophy, anatomy and anatomical movement, sequencing of the Asana practice, and the dynamics of teaching. Samdhaana trainees gain the knowledge of creative sequencing and rotational movement on the mat. It can be taught in multiple formats, beginner, alignment-based, or vinyasa.

Fall in Love with Yoga and Hawaii during one of our 25 Day Immersion Training on Hawaii's Big Island. Our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings take place in a fun and creative environment where you will have the time and space to dive deeper into your practice and learn to spread your Love of Yoga. Peak Beings Yoga is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance and all graduating teachers will be qualified to register with the Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga Teacher.  We also offer this same training in Mexico and Brazil.

Vineyard Arts Project is an arts and wellness retreat space located on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard. The center features two incredible 2,000 square foot yoga studios with high lofted barn ceilings and sprung floors. The center has a total of 23 luxurious bedrooms with private en-suite baths, communal dining and living rooms, a spacious kitchen, and expansive sun deck and yard. Available to rent for week-long yoga, fitness, and wellness retreats from May - October each year. 

I am a Ct based traveling yoga instructor.  I hold certifications as a Registered Children's Yoga Teacher (RCYT), completing a 95 hour training and I have completed my 200 hour training as well making me a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200).  I teach a wide variety of styles that can fit anyone's needs, from a gentle restorative class to an instead power session.  The voice is yours!!!     Aya Jane Waite grew up in the woods north of Marquette, home-schooled by a musician and a dancer.   At twelve years old she began her yoga practice on the forest floor: down dog in the sand, leaves, and bridge over Wilson Creek.  Aya unearthed a love of teaching while taking a 5-month teacher training course at the Baptiste studio Namaspa, in Bend, Oregon.

We live a more authentic and purpose driven life and are more adept at sharing our gifts with the world.

Christina is a Yoga Alliance certified RYT-200 and insured yoga instructor. She completed her training at Lotus House of Yoga in Lincoln, NE in 2015, and began teaching in early 2016. Christina specializes in Vinyasa and Astanga yoga, with additional training in Yin, Restorative, and yoga for special popluations.   

Up until 2013, I thought yoga had minimal benefits and couldn’t I slow down enough to get anything out of it. 

After enjoying the intensity of power yoga, I was able to appreciate the wonderful benefits of a calmer yoga practice.  Now, my passion lies in Buti Yoga, a blend of power yoga, tribal dance and plyometrics. I wake up craving movement and love starting my day off in a way that brings me alive. It inspires me to show every woman that, above all, self love is the most important gift you can give yourself.

I am a RYT who has received my 200+ hours training and certificate. I am also a certified Zumba teacher and group fitness instructor. As a life-long dancer, I have been educated in all styles of dance and currently am able to teach: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Modern, and Belly Dancing. I also hold numerous certificates in various styles of belly dancing. I also teach a beautiful combination of yoga flow and dance that is great for anyone looking to expand their practice and keep with the fluid movements.
