Purna Yoga Directory

Welcome to the Yoga Journal Purna Yoga Directory page. In this section you will find yoga studios, retreat centers, and teachers who specialize or incorporate Purna Yoga into their practice and philosophy.

Purna Yoga was founded by Aadil and Mirra Palkhivala in 2003. The style was inspired by the work of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. Aadil is also a life long student of B.K.S Iyengar. In a typical 90 minute class the postures are focused on the same alignment principles taught in Iyengar Yoga. In addition it incorporates extensive focus on yogic philosophy. Short mediations were developed by Mirra Palkhivala that begin and end each class. The aim is to connect students with their heart center. While in class you learn precise alignment the emphasis is on uniting the body and mind with the spirit. There is an emphasis on opening the heart chakra and connecting to the soul within. There are four limbs to Purna Yoga: mediation, asana and breath work, applied philosophy, and nutrition and lifestyle.
