Swami Vishnu-devananda(1927-1993) developed Sivananda Yoga after being a primary student of Swami Sivananda (1887-1963). This practice is designed to raise and elevate a persons consciousness. The yoga focuses on five fundamental principles: asana, pranayama, deep relaxation (Savasana), vegetarianism, positive thinking, and mediation. The classes are relatively gentle and are suitable for all body types. The practice of yoga poses is solely dedicated to a persons spiritual development. Each class focuses on the practice of the 12 core poses plus chanting, breathing, mediation, and corpse pose.
