Yin Yoga classes are designed to be a physically passive practice. Its aim is to maintain mobility in the deep connective tissue such as the ligaments and fascia. With out practicing Yin Yoga the fascia and ligaments tend to become stuck and less pliable with age. It uses seated and supine poses held for long periods of time. Props can be used to help support the person as well. Some poses can be help up to 5 minutes at a time. Most of the poses are focused on the lower back and hips. I currently teach group yoga classes in a local yoga studio in the Chicago suburbs, work with private clients, and school athletic teams to incorporate yoga into their training and conditioning.
I took my first yoga class 5 years ago and instantly fell in love with the practice. The positive effects it has had on my life inspired me to share it with as many people as possible. Shannon is a 200 RYT. She completed her first training in 2016 at Pure Hot Yoga in Springfield, Missouri. After graduate school, she moved back to her home town at began teaching at Brown Dog Yoga in Belleville, IL. Here, she completed her second 200-hour training in March of 2017. Shannon has a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and a Master’s Degree in experimental psychology. As both an undergraduate and graduate student, Shannon focused her research on using mindfulness meditation in classrooms.
