Welcome to the Yoga Journal Yin Yoga Directory page. In this section you will find yoga studios, retreat centers, and teachers who specialize or incorporate Yin Yoga into their practice and philosophy.

Yin Yoga classes are designed to be a physically passive practice. Its aim is to maintain mobility in the deep connective tissue such as the ligaments and fascia. With out practicing Yin Yoga the fascia and ligaments tend to become stuck and less pliable with age. It uses seated and supine poses held for long periods of time. Props can be used to help support the person as well. Some poses can be help up to 5 minutes at a time. Most of the poses are focused on the lower back and hips. These areas of the body have dense connective tissue and require extra care and attention. In addition, Yin helps move the flow of prana freeing

Take time to breathe, be present and live in the moment. Allow your breathe to guide you as you flow through a sequence of postures. Find your inner self, increase your strength and flexibility and learn to flow with your breath. Join in the journey, one breath at a time.

 I meet students where they are in the moment and teach how to allow your breathe to guide you through a practice, whether it's a vigorous flow or meditative yin/restorative class. I believe breathe and movement combine together to make for a wonderful practice. I love the twists and turns of a yoga journey that remind you to breathe, be present and live in the moment.

Shannon is a 200 RYT. She completed her first training in 2016 at Pure Hot Yoga in Springfield, Missouri. After graduate school, she moved back to her home town at began teaching at Brown Dog Yoga in Belleville, IL. Here, she completed her second 200-hour training in March of 2017. Shannon has a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology and a Master’s Degree in experimental psychology. As both an undergraduate and graduate student, Shannon focused her research on using mindfulness meditation in classrooms.

Shari is a 200-hr RYT, teaching both yin and hatha styles. Shari's classes are great for both beginners and continuing students. Lots of options are given so that the student can come into a pose that is right for her or his body. The atmosphere is relaxing and non-judgmental. Shari also holds classes in Sudbury, MA
